My New Diaper

I bought my first pair of padded bike shorts this weekend. It was certainly an investment but one I was finally ready to make. After 25 miles on Saturday and a very sore rear, I decided it was time. The shorts really enhanced my ride this morning. I feel like I'm waddling around in a diaper because of all the padding but the shorts sure make a difference in comfort.

Here's the specifics:
The hardworking Pearl Izumi Quest Cycling Short is made to keep you cool, comfortable, and streamlined on the road. Made with signature Pearl Izumi Sensor fabric, a complex blend of 72 percent nylon, 28 percent spandex, the shorts wick moisture away from the body to the outer layer for easy evaporation. Featuring a 6 panel ergonomic design, the shorts are made to fit just right for riding, and with the supportive 08' 3D Pro Chamois you will have all the contoured padding you need for a comfortable seat.

The 9.25-inch inseam shorts have comfortable spandex leg grippers to keep the hem just where you want it and the seams are flatlock stitched for zero chafing to the skin. This simple short features superior workmanship, high-performance fabric on both the short and chamois, and ideal design for a perfect fit road short.

I also decided it was time to move up to clip in pedals for my bike. I've been riding clipped in during Spin class for a while. I thought I could live without clip-ins for my roadbike but it's not the case. I'm tired of spending so my energy on my feet rather than my legs.

Here's the specifics:
These are great pedals for the price. Why buy anything else Shimano pedals hold up better than other brands. This is a great pedal for your bike clips on both sides . PD-M501 technology with great cost-to-performance ratio. Open binding design, 8mm hex key mounting. They have a alloy body Includes SH-51 cleats SPD compatable Cro-mo Axle.

I was reflecting on my evolution of biking on the way home. I started spinning three years ago. Two years ago I bought my first pair of spin shoes. This year I bought my first bike. Then I bought padded shorts and pedals. I wonder what's next in the evolution. Gloves?

I am absolutely having a blast riding outside. The only drawback is the possible extra girth it's adding to my thighs. I need to ask Jessica or Kendra if that's a possible reason or perhaps that's just my attempt to rationalize.

Can I call you Lance Armstrong?

Gloves are a must. You can damage your ulnar nerve (in the middle of you hand).

You should check out Bike Nashbar. That is where I used to buy most of my biking accessories. www.nashbar.com

Next in the evolution is a brightly colored spandex riding suit with matching helmet.

You're getting serious about this biking stuff. When are you gonna do the Dal-Mac?
